Decided on age
The wisdom of age won the day for Mr Raymond Sorel, aged 39, a candidate in the second round of the French municipal elections on Sunday. When votes were counted at the tiny village of Turqueville, near Cherbourg, Mr Sorel was found to have tied with Mr Michel Vaultier, aged 30, each having scored 32 votes. Mr Sorel was awarded the last remaining seat on the local council on the grounds of his greater age.—Cherbourg, March 23.
