Kaukapakapa impresses

The Awapuni trainer, G. Ivil, must have been feeling pleased after his Manawatu Mile representative Kaukapakapa worked brilliantly over six furlongs during yesterday’s trials.

This effort makes it clear that Kaukapakapa has gone on the right way since his runaway victory at Trentham.

Working 25 feet out on the course proper, Kaukapakapa gave Belle He a start and ran on to finish alongside his stablemate at the end of six furlongs in Imin 15 l-ssec, the last three in 37 l-ssec.

Lovely Honey, Tupelo and Long Shot were partnered for seven furlongs. Lovely Honey took an early lead and held it to finish. She took Imin 29 2-5 sec, the last six in Imin 17 3-5 sec and the final three in 39 sec, and led by a length at the end. Lovely Honey might run well in die Sires’ Produce Stakes. Warm Up and Jack’s Bay kept together all the way over six furlongs in Imin 18 1-5 sec, the last three in 38 1-5 sec. It was a good effort for horses of their class. LIGHT-WEIGHT Worthy Son, a light-weight engaged in the Adderstone Handicap, worked a mile, and

was joined by Bianaid for the last six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec and the last three in 38 4-ssec. Blainaid was just in front at the end.

Young Ida trailed Copper Royal early then finished on to win the gallop easily. They ran from the half-mile in 51 sec, and came the last three in 37sec. The run would improve Young Ida which is in the Sires’ Produce Stakes. On the inside trail Bellamour hit out keenly for five furlongs in Imin 4sec, the last three in 38sec. She looks in fine fettle for the Manawatu Mile. On the plough, which was very dusty, Silver Knight ran seven furlongs in Imin 33sec, the last three in 39sec. He has done well since Trentham and will be at his best for the Awapuni Gold Cup. Darron took Imin 7 2-ssec for five furlongs, the last three in 40 4-ssec and Bagheera beat Goldene over six in Imin 19sec, the last three in 19sec.

First Curtsy ran the last three of her work in 39 1-5 sec.
