Warning to S. Africa

(N.Z.P.A. 'Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 23. The Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr Michaei Ramsey) has warned South Africans that to avoid revolutionary violence they must seek and promote changes in the country’s apartheid laws by peace ful methods. This advice was given in an interview with the magazine, “South African Outlook,” to be published later this month, the Anglican Church Information Office disclosed.

Referring to South Africans who maintain a status quo attitude on apartheid, Dr Ramsey said: “If people don’t want revolutionary violence it is for them to be seeking change by peaceful methods and promoting it. “These people have the immense responsibility of bringing about change, otherwise the only alternative may be an attempt at change by sheer revolutionary violence.” Asked by the editor, Mr Francis Wilson, what he thought should be done to improve the situation in South Africa, Dr Ramsey said: “This ruthless movement of populations should go. The ban upon social intercourse between black people and white people in their homes and at public functions should go.”
