FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —An anticyclone with centres west and east of the North Island is moving slowly east and covers most of the country; A weak cold front advancing from the southwest should pass north-east over the southern half of the South Island during today. Forecast: Canterbury.—Light variable winds at first, with cloudy weather during the afternoon a change to moderate cool southwesterlies is expected, bringing isolated light showers, mostly near the coast. Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and North Westland.—Light to moderate variable winds in most places, but in and about Cook Strait moderate to fresh north to north-westerlies should develop during the morning, weather fine apart from a few local morning fog or low cloud areas, warm in the afternoon. South Westland.—Light to moderate winds from the west, cloud increasing in the morning and scattered light showers advancing from the south in the afternoon, temperatures moderate. Outlook.—Scattered light showers in Buller and North Westland but clear or partly cloudy weather elsewhere.
