Taranaki to visit port
H.M.N.Z.S. Taranaki, the second of the Royal New Zealand Navy’s fast new frigates, will visit Lyttelton on Thursday in the course of a training Cruise. Commanded by Commander N. R. Win, of Christchurch, a navigation specialist, the Taranaki will be open to the public between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday. On Saturday the ship will be host at a party for 100 underprivileged children on board.
On Thursday night the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Navy League will hold a dance for the crew which will also take part in softball, cricket, golf and shooting while in port. The Taranaki, which recently was guard ship for the One Ton Cup series, will leave the port on Monday.
