Onions for Germany

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, Mar. 22. Believed to be the first consignment of onions to be exported to West Germany from the Gisborne area, a trial shipment of 10,000 bags grown by Mr C. Witters and Mr D. Witters will be shipped from Napier at the end of “We hope that if this shipment is successful we will get a bigger contract with Germany," Mr D. Witters said today.

Because of the recent bad weather it had become necessary to grade the onions on two shifts. “Also due to the wet weather we had to have 100 people picking up the onions on Saturday to hurry the job," he said.
