Death of Mr G.T. Bolt

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 22. The death occurred in Wellington on Saturday of Mr George Thomas Bolt, a former chairman of the Public Service Commission. Mr Bolt, who was bom in

England in 1900, was educated at Wellington College and later became a qualified accountant.

He joined the office of the Public Service Commission as a cadet in 1917 and spent practically the whole of his 41-year career in that office. He held a number of important posts in the commissioner’s office, now the State Services Commission. He became secretary in 1936, and in 1944 was appointed assistant commissioner.

Two years later he became a member and deputy chairman of the three-man commission set up in 1946, and in 1953 was appointed chairman, succeeding Dr R. M. Campbell. After his retirement in 1958 Mr Bolt served as a member of the Government Service Tribunal, the Royal Commission on Parliamentary Salaries, and the Commission on Education, which reported in 1962.
