Contributions to library
The total cost of the reference services of the Canterbury Public Library in the coming financial years will be $59,194, it was reported to the City Council last evening. Main items of expenditure will be: salaries, $27,000; books, periodicals and binding, $22,000. Last year, representatives of mdst metropolitan local bodies had agreed that there was a reasonable case for their contributing towards the cost of the reference services.
The basis of this year’s contributions towards the total cost, on a percentage-ofrusers basis, would be: Christchurch, $39,285; Waimairi, $10,170; Riccarton, $2427; Heathcote. $2317; Papanui, $1936: Lyttelton, $249; others $2990.
