Churches appeal About $lOO,OOO has been received so far for the National Council of Churches annual Christmas Bowl Appeal which has a target of $220,000. The amount received is about $15,000 less than that collected at the same time last year. Mayor’s visit The Mayor of Richmond, Yorkshire, visited Richmond, Nelson, yesterday. The Mayor, Mr R. Eaton, and Mrs Eaton, are on a tour of New Zealand. Their visit to Nelson follows a call on the Yorkshire Borough by Cr G. Bailey of the Nelson borough of Richmond, two years ago. —(P.A.) Ships idle Four vessels were idle and one was undermanned when work began on the Lyttelton waterfront at 7 a.m. yesterday. Although 586 men, including eight non-unionists, were engaged another 284 men (25 gangs) would have been required to man fully all the vessels requiring labour. The Rosina Topic, Southland Star, Ngatoro and Pukeko were idle and the Risdon was undermanned.
