Criticism of Meat Board

(N.Z. Press Association) TAUPO, March 21. Some executive officers of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board were making decisions that were not in the best interest of the meat producers or the country, a past president of the New Zealand Independent Meat Exporters’ Association, Mr J. B. Buxton, claimed at the annual conference in Wairakei. He described the shipment of premium lamb to Britain before Christmas, 1969, as “an utter farce.” Mr Buxton was supporting a suggestion that the composition of the Meat Board could be amended to allow representatives of other interests, including exporters. Mr R. Finlayson said he believed it was in the interests of New Zealand as a whole,. and especially farmers, to expand membership of the board. He felt that if they had discussions with farmers, they would be better able to expand markets.
