Seven-mile race to J. Duggan

J. Duggan (Olympic), who took up road running 14 months ago at the age of 36, won the annual Teddington to Diamond Harbour seven-mile road race on Saturday in a time which was seven‘minutes faster than his run in the same race a year ago.

The handicap race, held by the Canterbury Road Runners’ Association, attracted a record entry of. 27 starters and produced some excellent times over a testing hilly course in spite of a strong head wind for much of the distance. The St Martin’s Club won the teams race with the best four placings. The Ashburton athlete R. Hood, ran outstandingly to take fastest time of 39min 09sec This was slightly more than a minute faster than the next best performance—that of R. Robinson of University. G. Clarke (Olympic), who has returned to road running after a lay-off. took third fastest in 40min 24sec and A. Cook fourth in 42min .06sec.
