CLIMBER FALLS

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, March 21. A youth who fell between 80ft and 100 ft while climbing downstream from the terminal face of the Franz Josef Glacier on Saturday afternoon is in a comfortable condition in the Grey Hospital. The youth, David John White, aged 18, of Reefton, was climbing with a companion on a steep face on the opposite side of the Waiho River to the access road when he fell. A rescue party was unable to cross the river from the access road, and had to make a four-mile detour to reach the injured youth. He was brought out by stretchet early in the evening and taken to the Whataroa Hospital and then to the Grey Hospital. He suffered a broken hand and head injuries.
