Explosion at Auck. bank
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 21. Thieves caused extensive damage to the basement of the Australia and New Zealand Bank in High Street, Auckland, early this morning, in an unsuccessful attempt to blast open the strongroom. Their gelignite charge only caused slight damage to the strongroom wall, but blew out doors, glass panels, mirrors, and shattered furniture. The intruders forced open a back entrance to gain entry to the bank. Shortly after the blast, about 2.40 a.m., police cordoned off the area, but were unable to apprehend those responsible. Business at the bank will continue as usual, tomorrow.
