PERMIT DENIED
New move by S. Africa (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, Feb. 25. The South African authorities have withdrawn the residence permit of the Rev. Richard Llewellin, who took over St Mary’s, the Anglican cathedral in Johannesburg, when the Dean, the Very Rev. Gonville ffrench-Bey-tagh, was detained last month, the Rand "Daily Mali” reports. Mr Llewellin, who is married with one child, played a large part in protests against the detention of the dean. The permit is understood to have been withdrawn yesterday. The “Daily Mail” also reports that an unidentified Presbyterian minister has also had his residence permit rescinded within the last two days. The clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (the Rev. E. Pons) would neither comment on the report nor identify the minister concerned.
The reported action against the two ministers follows widespread Government action recently against church officials, including the detention of the dean, who is due to appear in court tomorrow for a remand hearing under the Suppression of Communism Act
