ELECTRIC FISHING
Regulations on
machine use
fIV-Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. Regulations governing the use of electric fishing machines were announced today by the Minister of Marine (Mr McCready).
The Minister said that the use of electric fishing machines was initially intended for the investigation and the management of freshwater fisheries.
“However,” he said, “such machines are also of value as one of the methods of taking eels for commercial purposes.”
Only persons over the age of 18, who attended a course of instruction and passed a test, would be eligible to be granted the certificate of competency required before use of an electric fishing machine.
“In addition,” said Mr McCready, “each machine must be covered by a certificate of approval.”
