Chemical fires
Christchurch firemen were ‘called to two chemical fires (that broke out within a minute of each other yesterday I morning. Paint thinners in the spray I painting booth of S. W. Ward and Sons, Ltd, 7 Waller Terrace, caught alight and two engines from the Christchurch Central Station which answered the call at 11.22 a.m. had to use dry powder extinguishers and ono hose-reel to extinguish the blaze. Firemen were also called out at 11.23 a.m. to Alloy Steel, Ltd, Main South Road. Hornby, where a tar pot in the building had burst into flames. Only slight damage was caused by both fires.
