Greyhound racing
Aquatic (W. Kingston) won the first heat of the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Collar contest at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s twilight meeting of the Marshland Domain. The race, which drew many of the best dogs in Canterbury, was won by Aquatic by three lengths from Rockdale (W. Smith), with Windjammer (D. Kingston) in third position. The winning time for the distance of 650 yards was 39.6 seconds. Results were:— Sapling Stakes (9-12 months): Gogo Girl (Mrs M. Austin), 1; Apache II (S. Gane and M. Gerard), 2; Black Toby (A. Masters). 3. Time: 16,2. Puppy Stakes (12-18 months): Penny Flash (R. Kingston), 1; Prince Rebel (Mr and Mrs J. Gibson), 2. Time: 15.6. Duke of Edinburgh Silver Collar. First heat: Aquatic (W. Kingston), 1; Rockdale (W. Smith), 2; Windjammer (D. Kingston), 3. Time 39.6. Maiden Flat (445 yards): Yamma’s Charm (S. Taylor), 1; Radara’s Night (W. Kingston), 2; El Caballos (E. McDowell), 3. Time 26.4.
