Provincial buildings
The Government had paid over its contribution of 550,000 towards the $lOO,OOO fund for restoration of the Canterbury Provincial Buildings complex, Mr M. A. Connelly, M.P. (Labour, Wigram), chairman of the executive committee of the Canterbury Provincial Buildings Board, said yesterday. The remaining $50,000 was being contributed by local authorities over a five-year period. Some had made provision in this year’s estimates for their share, and some of the first annual payments had been received by the board. This had allowed work to proceed, Mr Connelly said. Working drawings for the restoration programme had been put in the hands of the Ministry of Works to complete.
A meeting of the full board will be held in Wellington early next month to determine details of the building restoration committee and its term of reference, Mr Connelly said.
