Noisy night
Roaring lions caused consternation at Lyttelton on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and this unfamiliar sound brought some sleeplessness to a number of people. Ten African lions and eight Russian bears from the Moscow circus were housed in the Union Steam Ship Company’s Seacargo terminal awaiting shipment to Sydney. The animals, accompanied by five Russian attendants, were loaded on board the Tasman roll-on vessel Maheno at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon.
