Asylum sought
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Coppriphtl SYDNEY, Feb. 7. Two Russians, a doctor and a chief engineer, who are members of the crew of a Russian cargo ship, have asked for political asylum in Australia, the ship’s agent said yesterday. The agent, James Patrick and Company, Ltd, said the men left the vessel Novomoskovsk (9000 tons) last night on a normal shore leave. The flrm would make no further comment.
It is understood that the two men went to a Sydney police station while ashore. A spokesman for the Department of Immigration said last evening: “The department is considering the case.” An official statement on the incident is not expected to be released before Monday. The Novomoskovsk arrived in Sydney on January 25, from Brisbane.
