Stormy Seas should go one better

Stormy Seas is assured of favouritism for the $2lOO Mayfair Plate at Riccarton on Wednesday, after a game run for a close second in the Craven Plate, the corresponding race on the first day of the Canterbury Jockey's Club's meeting on Saturday. Stormy Seas’s conqueror, Ribaldo, will not oppose the In-vercargill-trained three-year-old this time.

Ribaldo took all the honours of Saturday’s race after being one of the slowest away, and he is splendid material for one of the rich middle distance autumn races.

Stormy Seas was having only his second start after a spell oh Saturday, and paraded looking bright and as if he would im-

prove further with racing. Characteristically, Hombre went ahead with a strong gallop in the first furlong, but when Stormy Seas inched past him near the furlong it looked as if it would be the favourite’s day. Then Ribaldo came with the last run, one Stormy §eas could not quite contain. Hombre saw it out well for third, only a neck behind Stormy Seas and like the three-year-old should be improved by the race. Crown Agent was fourth in a gap of two lengths, but he came from far back in the field for that placing. Aeolian was unable to do himself justice. He looked slightly sore before the race, and had a swollen leg yesterday, which left some doubt about his fitness to run on Wednesday.
