Rare fish caught

The first recorded West Coast, North Island, catch of a rare Pacific dolphin was made off New Plymouth from a commercial fishing boat Madge. The fish was not particularly common in other parts of the world but was fairly well known as a game fish for its fighting qualities, Dr E. B. Slack, a reader in applied fisheries at Victoria University, who was on the Madge, said. Catches had been recorded previously on the east coast of New Zealand.—(P.A.)
