“On Camera” starts again tomorrow

A diverting variety of fare has been organised for the “On Camera” series which starts from CHTV3 tomorrow afternoon. The show will again be seen on Thursdays as well as Tuesdays. The compere, Julie Cunningham has been with the programme since it started in 1967 and she now works on contract so that she can spend more time at home with her daughter Jenny, who is now almost nine months old.

Once again Julie is given strong support by Joan Allard, who enjoys her out-on-the-spot reporting. Last year “On Camera” began an “Ask Joan” spot where viewers write in and ask Mrs Allard to make a film on a subject of their choice. So far it’s taken her to a pantihose factory, cake bakery, and cattery where she learned about feline care. New to the scene of “On Camera" is a young man, David Anido, a Canadian graduate who is in this country to study New Zealand literature. David will be making a weekly appearance and hopes to concentrate on one of his favourite topics, current affairs. Also on the menu for 1971 is a regular fashion spot in which a fashion correspondent shows a new outfit currently available in Christchurch and points out what makes it top fashion. With

fashion being so confusing at present, this should prove popular with women at home. Among the first series of programmes, will be one on “The History of "such things as beds, tobacco, tulips. Frances Ryman unfolds some fascinating facts about these rather mundane objects. The monthly quiz in “On Camera” takes on a new look this year. Each week viewers will be asked to guess the identity of a familiar object photographed from an unusual angle. After three weeks they send in their answers, together with a suggestion for another suitable subject for the quiz. The 10 best answers receive $2 eacii and one of them will be selected to. answer a bonus question. This bonus question, worth $lO, is telephoned during the programme. If it is not answered, the prize money jackpots to the next month.

New subjects planned for “On Camera” this year, include square dancing, photography, carpentry for women and dressmaking.
