Denial cf freeze allegations
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. Allegations that manufacturers were refusing to supply goods at prices which applied before the {trice freeze have been dened by the director of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Union (Mr J. Whatnall). A Hamilton manufacturer and wholesaler, Mr W. J. Hall had said that three different suppliers to his business refused to supply component parts needed in the assembly of sporting goods unless his firm bought them at prices increased since the beginning of the price freeze. “This is the first case we have heard of,” said Mr Whatnall. "No other cases of this nature have been brought to our notice.
“However, there are steps Mr Hall can take under the Trade Practices Act.” “NOT WANTED”
Mr Hall had said he could not take the matter to the Department of Industries and Commerce, because, as he had no alternative means of supply, it could jeopardise his business.
Several Auckland manufacturers have strongly denied increasing prices for their goods since the beginning of the price freeze, or holding stock until the freeze was lifted.
