VICTORIAN OPEN GOLF
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) MELBOURNE. The former British international golfer, G. B. Wolstenholme, scored his first major win on the Australian circuit in four year when he won the Victorian open championship yesterday. Wolstenholme, now resident in Australia, was runner-up in this event in 1967 and 1970, and also finished second in the .1969 Australian open. The tall Englishman carded a two-under-par 70 in the final round to take the title by two strokes from the five —times British open champion, P. W. Thomson. A South American, J. Child, aged 27, in his first tournament in Australia, was third, three strokes behind Wolstenholme.
The scores of the three leaders were: Wolstenholme, 73, 75, 71. 70; Thomson, 77, 71, 72, 71; Child, 73, 75, 71, 73. W. J. Godfrey led the New Zealand challenge. He finished 10 strokes behind Wolstenholme. on 299 (81, 69, 79, 70). T. Kendall scored 302 (77. 72, 77, 76) and A. J. Palmer 304 (83, 71, 79, 71).
