Summer garden competition
Eighty home gardens were judged yesterday by the Christchurch Beautifying Association in its annual summer gardens competition. The gardens were judged on their appearance from the street.
Mr R. Proctor the organiser of the competition, said that the number of entries had increased from last year, and that the selection of choice trees and shrubs and the maintenance and layout of gardens, were excellent. “All entrants in the under60ft frontage class gained a
certificate of merit, which is exceptional,” he said. PREMIER GARDEN The premier garden in the competition and winner of the Ruske Cup was the home with the highest points In all classes. This garden belongs to Mrs F. W. reen, 7 Doreen Street, Aranui. A display of tuberous Be?onlas grown in the open won he first prize for the most outstanding garden feature. The owners of this garden, and winners of the Gower Cup, are Mr F. Button and Mrs Button, 12 Muirson Avenue, Hoon Hay. Other results were: Tillman Cup (new home gardens): M.
