Housewives’ siege
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PORT TENNANT (Wales), February 6. Two hundred housewives in Port Tennant have put a carbon factory under siege because they claim that pollution from its chimneys is ruining their lives. They say their windows have to be washed every day, that the weekly wash costs 15s and that mothers are unable to leave their babies in prams out of doors. Working on a roster and sustained with food by local shopkeepers, they have maintained a 24-hour blockade of the road leading to the factory since Wednesday last.
