E.E.C. move hoped for (N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 3. A decision to implement the first stage of the European monetary and economic union plan might be taken next Monday, a top official of the European community said in London today. Mr Giampietro Morelli, secretaiy of the Community’s economic and finance committee, told a London Chamber of Commerce conference on Europe that he hoped that such a decision might be taken when the Werner committee proposals for a monetary union came up for discussion.

Speaking in a personal capacity and not as a spokesman for the Community, Mr Morelli suggested that if a European currency were established with a reserve fund and if Britain joined the Common Market, sterling balances might be deposited with the fund against the issue of Community cur-
