Three to be defended

The Canterbury skippers, R. G. Moor and R. J. Winters, will defend three trophies in the national Flying Fifteen yachting championship at Napier next week-end. Although the first national contest in this class was held during the 1962-63 season, it was not until Moor and Winters travelled to Taupo last year that South Island crews challenged for the title. But the initial southern entry provided quite a shock for the North Island competitors. Moor won the championship and handicap sections, and the two Charteris Bay helmsmen also took the inter-pro-vincial prize. , R. Eastmond subsituted for Winter’s regular crew. 1. Cricket.— The former Australian test batsman, J. H. Fingleton, will be one of the guest speakers at the Northern Districts Cricket Association's sportsmen's dinner at Hamilton on March 4. Mr Fingleton will be visiting New Zealand to covtr the New Zealand-England tests ■ for an English newspaper.
