I ' PURSUANT to Section 24 (10) of ! the above Act NOTICE IS ’ HEREBY GIVEN of the under- , mentioned decisions of the North Canterbury Catchment ' Board as the Regional Water ’ Board, on applications for grants iof rights under the Act. Where • the decision is to grant rights the grant is subject to conditions normally imposed in grants of such nature. Where special conditions have been imposed the same are indicated hereunder. The full terms of each decision, including conditions, may be inspected at the Board’s offices, 56 Cathedral Square, Christchurch during office hours. DECISIONS (a) TO GRANT OF RIGHTS TO TAKE “NATURAL WATER” FOR A 4-YEAR PERIOD: Grantee; G.P.D., G.P.M., D.P.W., Source, Purpose. (G.P.D.—-Gallons per day; G.P.M.—Gallons per minute; D.P.W.—-Days per week.) Lincoln College, Springs Road, 336,000, 350, 7, Well, Spray irrigation. (b) TO GRANT OF RIGHT TO TAKE NATURAL WATER FOR 1 YEAR PERIOD: Christchurch Drainage Board to take a total of 2 million gallons from South Branch Waimakariri River at maximum rate 500 gallons per minute for Belfast sewage treatment ponds. (c) TO GRANT OF RIGHTS TO POND NATURAL WATER FOR 4-YEAR PERIOD:

North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society to pond water in five existing ponds in Hart’s Creek- refuge for waterfowl habitat (d) To grant of rights to discharge natural water for 4year period: Canterbury Dairy Farmers’ Milk Station, Ltd, Woodend, to: (a) discharge 1000 g.p.d. washing down water from milk storage room and dock area to roadside drain. Special Conditions: (i) That a sediment sump is installed and operated to the satisfaction of the North Canter bury Catchment Board. (ii) That when public sew age facilities are available the right to dis charge to the roadside drain will terminate and the washdown water must then be made to the sewerage system. (b) to discharge up to 40,000 g.p.d. unpolluted rain water from yards and buildings at maximum rate 100

g.p.m. to roadside drain. (e) To grant of right to divert natural water for 4-year period: A. George, Waimairi, Amber ley, to divert up to 450,000 g.p.d. at maximum rate 500 g.p.m. from Waipara River channel to three pumping points along his river frontage for spray irrigation purposes and to discharge surplus water back to main river channel. Special Conditions: (1) That the right granted is not an authority to obtain access or to carry out any work in the Waipara Riverbed. (2) That the grantee shall advise the Board 24 hours before he does any works in the riverbed intended to

lead water back to the pump intake channel. (3) That the alignment of any diversion leading water back from the river to the intake pond shall be along a line at right angles to the main channel of the river through the pond. The leading of water from points higher up the river than the pond, by making channels inclined upstream is forbidden. (4) That the grantee shall install a fish barrier, to keep fish out of the ponds, to the satisfaction of the Board. (5) That any river protection required because of the installation of the pump and leading water to the intake ponds to protect the pump installations, shall be entirely at the expense of the grantee. The grantee shall obtain the approval of the Board before carrying out protective works of the nature of groynes or lateral protection in the river. (6) That the grantee shall exercise his rights to divert and take water from the Waipara River in accordance with the roster of pumping operations as mutually arranged between all users of water from the river. (f) Decision to decline rights to natural water: (a) Rangiora Borough Council to take 240,000 g.p.d. 7 d.p.w. at rate of 200 g.p.m. from a well for heat exchange pump to Dudley Park Swimming Pool. (b) Canterbury Education Board to take 10,000 g.p.-d. 15 g.p.m. from a well at Kendal School for irriga tion purposes. (c) de Spa and Co., Ltd, to take 170,000 g.p.d., 120 g.p.m. from a bore, at Staunton Street, Woolston, for proposed wool scouring plant.
