Wheat burnt at Rakaia
Ten acres of standing wheat and 70 sacks of headed wheat were burnt on the property of Mr W. James in Rakaia when a fire spread from a header on a 30-acre paddock. The fire started at midday on Thursday and took an hour to get under control, even with the aid of the Rakaia people who rushed to help the two appliances sent by the Rakaia Volunteer Fire Brigade. Ten acres of standing crop and about 70 sacks of wheat were saved. The header was not damaged.
