Bowls finalists to meet at Oamaru
The South Island finalist for the Rothmans national inter-centre bowling tournament will be found tomorrow when two teams from Christchurch and one each from South Canterbury and South Otago meet on the Phoenix club’s green in Oarnaru.
With two of its teams having come through from the zone eliminations, which were completed before Christmas, the Christchurch centre must have good prospects of reaching the national final in defence of the handsome trophy it gained last year by winning the inaugural tournament. The teams are:—
Canterbury Black: S. E. Lawson (singles); B. W. Sinclair, T. J. Edmonds (pairs); A. Memory, C. T. Bateman, T. W. Dixon, W. R. Wilkinson (fours). Canterbury Red: J. P. Anderston (singles); K. G. Mur-
ray, L. C. Lindley (pairs); F. Hoy, R. A. Lulham, F. Hayes, T. F. Coup (fours). South Canterbury: R. H. Cowles (singles); R. M. Milne, A. L. Hawkey (pairs); I. R. Batchelor, R. Smith, N. C. Manchester, W. F. Finn (fours). South Otago: W. E. Barron (singles); R. S. Dunne, G. Barron (pairs); F. Patrick, N. Gent, R. Crighton, R. Anderson (fours). Of Christchurch’s two teams the Black one looks the slightly stronger. There will be three rounds tomorrow, with each team meeting. In the first round, the two Christchurch fours will meet.
The North Island final will be played at Rotorua tomorrow week, between two Auckland teams and fours from Hawke’s Bay and Wanganui. The national final will be in Napier next month.
