A.S.R.S. head criticised

The national secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants (Mr N. A. Collins), was criticised yesterday by the secretary of the Addington branch (Mr W. C. L. Tobeck). Mr Tobeck said he was at a loss to understand Mr Collins’s claim that railwaymen’s wages had kept ahead of price increases during the last two years. Recently, the A.S.R.S. had claimed 24c an hour for railway labourers, to catch up with harbour board labourers, and had been awarded 8.5 c an hour. “We remind Mr Collins that he is speaking on behalf of a workers’ organisation, and is paid to represent the workers’ needs—not the employers’ cause,” said Mr Tobeck.
