Obituary MR R. JONES
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. A news editor with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation for the last eight years, Mr Ronald Jones, died in Wellington Hospital today aged 66. He had been a patient there since December 28. Mr Jones, who is survived by his wife and three sons, was one of the most colourful figures liveliest reconteurs in New Zealand journalism. He studied for the Presbyterian ministry at Knox Theological College before joining the “Otago Daily Times” round 1926.
After Army service in Italy and the Middle East, he served as the chief sub-editor on the “Manawatu Evening Standard,” in Palmerston North, and was later the editor of the New Zealand Law Journal. He was one of the first journalists to join the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation when it started its present news service. He also contributed to the threevolume “Encyclopaedia of New Zealand.”
