Bus drivers’ ballot

(By our industrial reporter)

Christchurch bus drivers will hold a secret ballot on February 24 to decide whether to dismiss some or all of their union officers and executive members.

The ballot will be supervised by the Department of Labour and will provide for a separate vote on each individual representative. The bus drivers’ union president (Mr F. Langrish) and secretary (Mr N. Gray) were both heavily defeated in a recent election for a workers’ representative on their industrial disputes committee. Most of the bus drivers voted instead for a candidate from outside their union—a bus inspector.
