Under 23’s game drawn
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Manawatu took the slight honours that came out of the drawn match with the New Zealand under-23 side yesterday. The under 23s set to score 173 in just under two hours to win, after Manawatu’s second declaration, was five wickets down for 91 at the end. Scores: Manawatu 244/4 declared and 140/7 declared (J. M. McEwen 55, not out; R. McGill 5/46), Under 23 212/4 declared (J. Coney 68, not out; G. D. Newdick 60) and 91/5 (L. Lees 28, Newdick 22; I. Hutchison 2/12, B. W. Yuile 2/27).
Swimming—The 14-year-old Sydney schoolgirl, Shane Gould, equalled the Australian 200 metres freestyle senior record. She recorded 2min 9.Bsec,
