Aust, praise for N.Z. hotels
<N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Nov. 23. The standard of New Zealand tourist accommodation is higher than people realise, according to Australian tourist officials. The Australians are members of a promotion group
which has just finished a oneweek tour of New Zealand. “We have fonnd accommodation to be of a very high standard—perhaps even higher than people realise,” the leader of the delegation, Mr J W. Miller, of the Australian Tourist Commission, said today. “We have heard New Zealanders talking of high prices, but we have found the service to be very good and the prices are not excessive. “The hotels that we stayed in were in the major centres. The accommodation was first class and the prices reasonable.” New Zealand was doing at least as much, if not more than other countries to promote tourism. “By the end of June, 1971, we estimate that 100,000 New Zealanders will visit Australia,” he said. “If the average stay is 15 days, and if each tourist spends $2O a day, then New Zealanders alone will be worth s3om to Australia. This makes tourism a major industry in the country. “There are more visitors to Australia from New Zealand than from any other country. New Zealand is our most important market for tourists.”
