Charge for hunting

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, Nov. 23. The president of the Gisborne Field Shooters’ Association (Mr G. R. Morrison) said that as yet he had never been advised of any farmers charging shooters or fishermen for the use of their land. Mr Morrison was commenting on a statement, made in Parliament by the member for Marlborough (Mr I. J. Brooks) that 45 farmers in the Gisborne area intended to close their land to casual sportsmen, and were to charge between $25 and $45 a day to New Zealanders who wanted to use the land for hunting or fishing. It was illegal for farmers to charge anybody for gamebird shooting rights, although they were entitled to prevent people hunting pigs, goats, and deer on their land, said Mr Morrison.
