They are John Leith, aged 31, single, of Retreat Road, Invercargill, and Ivan Stuart Caldwell, aged 26, married, of Church Street, Gore. They were in a single-engined Fletcher plane. They left from the Bounoary airstrip near the Whitestone River, Te Anau, at 5.15 p.m. and were due at Winton at 6 p.m. The police were notified that the plane was overdue at 9.45 p.m. Mr Leith was flying the plane, which belonged to Farmers’ Aerial Topdressing Company, Ltd, of InvercargiU.
