Display of ceramics from London

Earthenware with colours of a brillance seldom seen in New Zealand are a feature of a pottery and ceramics exhibition being held by Kenneth Clark, of London, on the ground floor of the Bank of New Zealand building.

The exhibition opened last evening and will be open during shopping hours until December 2. All the items are for sale. There are a few items of metalware on display. Mr Clark is a New Zealander. He was born in Wellington and lived in different parts of the Nelson province. He attended Nelson College. Since World War 11, Mr Clark has lived in England. He now has a studio in what was a large fruit warehouse in the Covent Garden market area. With his wife, Ann, Mr Clark designs mostly commissioned work and they and their staff of four make a considerable range of items. Their tiles and dishes are exported to Canada, Australia and Norway. Other work includes crosses and altar furniture, and panels for banks, offices, restaurants and many private homes.

Mr Clark now teaches only occasionally. He acts as consultant, visitor, examiner or assessor for several colleges of art and he was on the selection committee for the Wedgewood Scholarship until it was discontinued last year. He is the author of “Practical Pottery and Ceramics,” now in its sixth edition, and has more recently written a book entitled “Throwing for Beginners.”
