An Italian archaeological team, excavating at Salokia, south of Bagdad, has uncovered more than 1000 seals imade of pottery, and domesI tic utensils dating to the first [century A.D. i The team has been excavating at the site, known as [Tel Omar, for the last seven years. Earlier finds included silver coins. Informed sources say that the seals carried Latin inscriptions indicating tax regulations in force at the time. The team is expected to continue its excavations until the end of the year.

It is also reported that a New York Metropolitan Museum mission has uncovered four bronze statues dating to the third millenium, B.C. at the Tel Al-hiba site in the Ziqar district.
