Tourie, a gelding, Is out of the Calender mare. Apathy, a halfsister to Careys, the dam of Caledonian Las*. Careys and Apathy, which won the Invercargill and Riverton Cups and also th* Auckland Festival Cup, are out of the Lo Zingaro mare. Amber Light, dam also of a Southland Guineas winner In Pilot Light and a hardy galloper in Tilly Light. Tourie won the first division of the Breeders* Stakes by two lengths and a half from the recent winner, Jade Wood, after the pair had made almost all he running. Over the final furlong, Tourie had It to himself and did not have to be ridden out. Caledonian Lass, which had finished second in etch of hsr only two previous starts, made a one-hone race of the second division. First out from the barrier, she coasted home, under a firm hold, six lengths clear of the AustraUan-bred filly, Budget » which has now been In each of her three starts. Helen’s Glory, an Ayrshire Bard filly from a successful brood mare in Clinker's Glory and which was having her first start, was a useful third. Caledonian Lsss is * hslf-slster to Caraway, a two-year-old winner last season. Both Tourie and Caledonian Lass are trained by W. J. HUUs, being raced by their breeder, Mr w. E. Hazlett, who imported Lomond for his Chelandry Stud.
