Kiwi Hostess holds on
Kiwi Hostess showed courage to hold oft a determined late challenge from Armbro Free and win the New Zealand Spring Time Stakes by half a head. Kiwi Hostess credited her owner, E. J. Donnlthorne, with his first training success. She will race next In the New Zealand Golden Slipper Stakes at Wahnate next month—a race won by her close relation, PhiUmark, in 1964. Kiwi Hostess is by Yankee Express from Aufleem, by Thunder On from Margaret Gamble, the dam also of Moose, Gift Duty, and Phillmark. Hobart Lord tore away to a handy lead early, with Rachael Hanover second, clear of Guernsey Princess and Kiwi Hostess. D. G. Jones improved with the last-named near the three furlongs and she was soon in charge. However, Armbro Free, near the tall of the field early, came fast towards the end and failed by half a head to get up. Guernsey Princess was a useful third, clear of Hobart Lord and Trebles.
