3 KILLED IN SMASH
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Nov. 22. Two men and a woman were killed bn the outskirts of Awanui late on Thursday night when their car left State Highway No. 1 and hit a power pole. Those killed were: Miss Ritihia Shortland, aged 27, a kitchenhand at the Waipapakauri Hotel, (of Pukepoto Road, Kaitaia, Basil Lawrence Hutchins, aged 30, a senior clerk at the Kaitaia Post Office, of Pukepoto Road, Kaitaia, and Alan Thomas Rose, aged 23, a clerk at the 8.N.Z., Kaitaia, of South Road, Kaitaia. The car, believed to be a borrowed vehicle, was travelling north towards Awanui when it left the road.
