LUNOKHOD 1 RESTS
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MOSCOW, Nov. 22. The Soviet Union’s pioneer Moon vehicle Lunokhod 1, is preparing to cease moving for two weeks on the Moon’s Sea of Rains. It will be protected from the -300 degrees Fahrenheit temperature of the lunar night by a screenvacuum insulation system. The lunar night lasts 14 days and a half; it will end about December 8. The vehicle which has been engaged in exploratory movements for five days, will reduce its operations today and tomorrow, to charge its stor-age-cells with the light remaining. Press reports yesterday said that Lunokhod 1 had roamed “hundreds of metres from the landing stage, during four scouting missions; a precise figure was not given.
