RIFLE USED
Women tied to chairs (N.Z. Press Association) WAIROA, Nov. 22. A married woman and three teen-age girls were held at gunpoint then bound with ropes by a man on Saturday afternoon. They were in an upstairs room in Marine Parade, Wairoa, doing clay modelling and pottery work when they were interrupted by a man with a .303 rifle.
He bound them to their chairs with rope he had with him, gagged the woman and two of the girls, and took the third girl into an adjoining room. . Some time later he left and made off in the woman’s car which was parked outside. . Police are withholding the names of the woman and the three girls. Detective Sergeant D. Winter would not comment today other than to confirm that the woman and three girls were menaced by a man with a rifle. The woman’s car was] found abandoned at Ohinepaka, five miles from Wairoa, today, and police later arrested a man who will appear in the Gisborne Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
