Model T trip going well
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. A happy band of sunburnt model T Ford enthusiasts arrived in Taihape tonight on the first stage of a Welling-ton-Auckland trip that was made 58 years ago. The day’s run was 160 miles. The model T Ford left the Wellington Chief Post Office at 6.15 this morning, and so began the same journey which started at the same hour on November 22, 1912. Travelling with the driver, Mr R; Ivin, is Mrs P. McLean, navigator, and Mr B. Joyce, a Wellington journalist. The route to be taken tomorrow follows the main road to Auckland although at Ohakura a 70-mile detour will be made through rough King Country roads ending at Te Kuiti. Included in the itinerary is the fording of an 18-inch deep stream near Ohakune and visits to schools in backcountry areas. The original journey took 8| days but the present model T is expected to roll into an Otahuhu garage for a check-up on Wednesday afternoon.
Later that day there will be a drive up Queen Street in Auckland to the offices of the Mayor (Sir Dove MyerRobinson) where a letter from the acting Mayor of Wellington (Cr F. L. Archibald) will be read.
