RACING AND TROTTING Three-year-olds hold stage

Three-year-olds engaged at the Waikato Racing ■Club’s meeting at Te Rapa today and at Addington tonight should provide the highlights of racing and trotting today.

The $5OOO Waikato Guineas over a mile and a quarter this afternoon will see the New Zealand Derby winner, Fairview Lad, attempt to improve his already impressive record as a three-year-old.

With the withdrawal of Panzer Chief and Moonmist, Fairview Lad’s task has been made a little easier, although he will face strong opposition from Silver Knight, Donegal Lad, Brookby Hill, and Kirrama.

In selecting Fairview Lad to win, the Auckland correspondent of “The Press” says that at this stage of the season Fairview Lad’s proven staying ability should make him the hardest to beat on the testing Te Rapa track. The other major attraction at Te Rapa is the rich Waikato Gold Cup over a mile and a half. Pell Mell, a laststart winner of the Auckland Racing Club’s Alison Cup is selected, with Skint Dip, the Foxbridge Plate winner, and Pep the main dangers. At Addington tonight, Noble Lord, “The Press” fancy for the New Zealand Derby Stakes, to be run for the first time over 13 furlongs, will try to improve the success of his family in the rich event. The top stakes winning two-year-old last season, Noble Lord has done most of his recent racing in the North Island. Record run His last win was in the two-mile Masterton Cup, but his record run for second over a mile and a half in the Otaki Cup two starts

back will assure him of a host of admirers tonight. New Law and Royal Ascot form a very strong bracket and a top run from either, or both, must give the Templeton trainer, F. E. Newfield, hopes of taking home at least some of the stake. Dreamy Morn, a winner of three of his last four starts, the Rangatira-Scottish Warrior bracket, and Violetta will all be well fancied in what (appears to be a very open classic.

In the T.A.B. double True Averil, an unlucky third on Tuesday night, and the consistent trotter, Tony Bear, are fancied.

Other meetings The two galloping meetings in the South Island to-day—-at Hokitika and Inver-

cargill—have attracted several form horses from the recent Canterbury ■ Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton. . At Hokitika the hardy Gay Doctor, fourth in the Members’ Handicap last Saturday; and Honey Carlyle are expected to race prominently in the T.A.B. double races, the Haast Pass Handicap and Paringa Handicap. Somelight, whose runaway tactics were responsible for a new course record being set by Watallan in last Saturday’s Metropolitan Handicap, and Red Sash form a likely top-weight combination for the main double at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting. The other two meetings today at Feilding, and the second day of the Northern Wairoa meeting, hold little interest for local race followers.
