PARK ROAD BILL
Submissions by county The Waimairi County ’ (Council will ’make submis- : sions to the Local Bills Com- j mittee when it is taking evidence on the City Council’s bill which seeks to validate the construction of the motorway across the north-eastern corner of Hagley Park. This decision was reached! at a meeting of the county council on Thursday evening
when the finance committee said that the council should put to the committee its views on the effects the bill might have on the master traffic schemes. The chairman (Mr D. B. Rich) said that as the county had lodged an objection to the City Council’s intention to delete grade separation at the Salisbury Street-Park Terrace crossing, it should, to be consistent, give its views to the committee. The council received a letter from Mr G. J. Watson, asking if the council had ever discussed the question in Open meeting, and whether it would be making submissions to the Parliamentary committee. If the sanctity of Hagley Park was not to be respected said Mr Watson, would the council support a move to have a direct road across the park from Riccarton Road to Armagh Street? He was thanked for his interest; the Clerk (Mr J. Reid) will reply.
