Miners mixed; oils and industrials firmer
The Australian mining market closed on a relatively mixed note in the wake of the suspension, and subsequent reinstatement of Poseidon shares. The suspension did not seem to affect the value of the shares to a great extent and they even managed a minimal 200 c rise to $62. Speculative support petered out at the close, with Peerless losing a few cents despite the report of having reached sulphides, while Triako, which announced that its copper ores at the Lady Annie mine in Queensland have been proven, also closed weaker. Sedimentary Uranium, however, came in for heavy buying support which lifted it 17c to 65c. Kathleen Investments shed 30c to 460 c. Great Boulder rose lie after discontinuation of the Austim writ. M.I.M. Holdings and Hamersley were both easier. The oils ended the day on a firmer note. Associated Freney jumped 7c to 95c, and Woodside put on 3c at 75c. Ampol Ex. gained 5c at 145 c. The industrial boards reflected a generally firmer trend. B.H.P. remained static while C.S.R. and Austim were marginally better. The banks were particularly strong, with the B.N.S.W. putting on 4c at 570 c and C.B.A. 3c at 215 c. The stores were among the weaker spots. SYDNEY Sales.—-Ampol, 74; Ansett, 70; A.W.A., 136; Ass.
